Sir Bobby Robson

When Sir Bobby Robson arrived at struggling Newcastle United in September 1999, he promised to turn things around. That he did. Robson guided Newcastle to an 11th place finish that season and then took them to back-to-back qualification for the UEFA Champions League, with third and fourth-place finishes.

Kevin Keegan

Took Newcastle United from near-relegation to the third tier of English football in 1992 to the Barclays Premier League as Division One Champions the following season. Under Keegan, Newcastle came third in their first term back in the top-flight and finished as runners-up twice in a row. He returned to Newcastle in 2008 after a three-year spell in the Barclays Premier League with Manchester City but Keegan was never able to take the trophy to Tyneside.

Rafael Benitez

Benitez arrived at Liverpool with two La Liga titles under his belt. But while he won the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup and the Community Shield during his time at Anfield, as well as guiding Liverpool to second place in 2008/09, he was never able to lift the Barclays Premier League trophy during his six years in Merseyside. Benitez led Chelsea to a third-place finish in 2013.

Harry Redknapp

One of the most established and experienced managers in Barclays Premier League history, Redknapp has guided West Ham United to fifth, which remains their highest ever League finish, and led Portsmouth to a comfortable 13th-place finish in their first season in the Barclays Premier League. More recently he is known for his impact at Tottenham Hotspur, where he took a team in the bottom three to UEFA Champions League qualification, Spurs' most successful top-flight season to date, in 19 months. He won the Barclays Premier League Manager of the Year award as a result, only the second person to do so without having won the League.

Gerard Houllier

Houllier brought a tactical approach from the continent and led Liverpool to second place 2001/02, their highest ever finish in the Premier League and their highest in the top-flight since 1991. He also won the FA Cup, League Cup, UEFA Cup and UEFA Super Cup along the way, but was never able to add a Premier League winners' medal to the cabinet. He later joined Aston Villa but stepped down after a season due to illness.
