Tuesday review: Sturridge at the double as Liverpool seal derby triumph

Liverpool record a 4-0 win over Everton while Southampton hit back to draw with Arsenal

Liverpool produced a magnificent performance to complete a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Everton in the Merseyside derby.

The Reds scored three goals in 14 blistering minutes, through Steven Gerrard and two from Daniel Sturridge, to take control of the match while Luis Suarez added a fourth on 50 minutes. Sturridge also missed a second-half penalty.

Barclays Premier League leaders Arsenal dropped points at St Mary's Stadium as Southampton battled back to claim a 2-2 draw. Jose Fonte put the hosts ahead on 21 minutes, only for Arsenal to take the lead with two goals in four second-half minutes from Olivier Giroud and Santi Cazorla. However, within a minute of Arsenal taking the lead Adam Lallana equalised for Saints while Arsenal midfielder Mathieu Flamini was sent off with 10 minutes left.

Juan Mata made his Manchester United debut in the 2-0 victory over Cardiff City following his move from Chelsea, with the returning Robin van Persie scoring the opening goal after just six minutes. Ashley Young's superb strike, assisted by Mata, on 59 minutes sealed the three points for United.

Crystal Palace claimed their third straight victory, a 1-0 win over Hull City, to move five points clear of the Barclays Premier League relegation zone. Jason Puncheon scored the only goal in the 16th minute when he reacted the quickest after his initial shot was blocked by the Hull defence.

Swansea City ended an eight-match winless run in the Barclays Premier League with a 2-0 victory over Fulham, Jonjo Shelvey and Chico Flores with the goals.

Norwich City and Newcastle United both ended their match at Carrow Road with 10 men as they played out a 0-0 stalemate. Norwich's Bradley Johnson and Newcastle's Loic Remy saw red after clashing with eight minutes to go.
