Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini and Sunderland winger Adam Johnson have been rewarded for impressive performances at the start of the year by winning the Barclays monthly awards for January.
Pellegrini has guided his side to four victories out of four Barclays Premier League matches and he becomes the first person to collect back-to-back Barclays Manager of the Month Awards since Chelsea's Carlo Ancelotti in 2011.
Three of City's matches in January were away from home, against Swansea City, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur while they beat Cardiff City at home. Man City continued their free-scoring form by netting 14 times in the process.
Man City's 12 points enabled them to maintain their title challenge and they ended the month top of the table, one point ahead of Arsenal after 23 matches.
Adam Johnson has won his first Barclays Player of the Month award for his role in helping Sunderland move out of the Barclays Premier League relegation zone.
Johnson scored five goals in three matches as the Black Cats, under the guidance of Gus Poyet, picked up seven points to lift them off the bottom of the table.
The 26-year-old winger scored a hat-trick in the victory over Fulham then hit the equaliser against Southampton before hitting the winner as Sunderland beat Stoke City. Johnson's eye-catching form continued into February when he scored the second goal in the derby victory over Newcastle United last Saturday.
