Etienne Capoue signs for Tottenham Hotspur

Midfielder becomes club's fourth signing of summer; Neil Alexander joins Crystal Palace

  • Capoue is Spurs' fourth signing of the summer transfer window

  • Alexander, 35, has joined Crystal Palace on a one-year deal

Tottenham Hotspur have announced the signing of midfielder Etienne Capoue from Toulouse.

The 25-year-old, who made 174 appearances, with 13 goals, for Toulouse in Ligue 1, was named in the league's Team of the Year in 2012.

Capoue is a defensive midfielder, who can also play at centre-half, and has seven senior caps for France, with one goal. He is head coach Andre Villas-Boas’s fourth signing of the summer, after Roberto Soldado, Nacer Chadli and Paulinho, as the Portuguese’s team prepare for Spurs’ opening match of the 2013/14 Barclays Premier League season away to Crystal Palace on Sunday, 18 August.

Palace swoop for Alexander

Crystal Palace have signed goalkeeper Neil Alexander on a free transfer.

The 35-year-old, who was a free agent, previously played for Rangers, Ipswich Town and Cardiff City and act as back-up to Julian Speroni. He is Ian Holloway's seventh summer signing.

"To become part of a Premier League club is massive for me," Alexander told the Palace website. "I’m very much looking forward to the season – it’s going to be a very exciting season this year.

"Being in the Premier League, one of the best leagues in the world was one of the main things for me. I’m really looking forward to the season ahead and I can’t wait to get started."
