The winger drifted in from the right before rifling a spectacular shot past goalkeeper David Stockdale in the 86th minute.

Stoke City also scored the only goal of the game late beating West Ham United 1-0 at the Boleyn Ground. Jermaine Pennant’s 82nd-minute free-kick inflicted the first defeat of the season on Sam Allardyce’s side.

Nathan Redmond scored to give Norwich City their first league victory of the season over Southampton at Carrow Road. The winger, who was signed from Birmingham City in the summer, cut in from the left and hit a low shot into the bottom-left corner mid-way through the second half.

Cardiff City maintained their unbeaten home record in the Barclays Premier League a 0-0 draw at home to Everton.

In the day’s early match, Alvaro Negredo came off the bench and scored for the second Barclays Premier League in a row as Manchester City beat Hull City 2-0.

After a goalless first half Negredo broke the deadlock after 65 minutes before Yaya Toure sealed the points with a last-minute free-kick.

In the day's late kick-off, newly promoted Crystal Palace earned their first points of the 2013/14 campaign by beating 10-man Sunderland 3-1 at Selhurst Park.

Daniel Gabbidon opened the scoring for the hosts after prodding home from a corner before Steven Fletcher, returning from injury, levelled for the Black Cats. John O'Shea was sent off after conceding a penalty that Dwight Gayle converted, before Stuart O'Keefe sealed the points with a long-range strike.
