Barclays U21s: Spurs win after Falque brace

Coach Chris Ramsey hails 4-2 victory over Chelsea as "one of best ever" displays

  • Falque's first-half brace turned the match round for Spurs

  • Ramsey was impressed with the display, especially from the newer players

Chelsea 2-4 Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur Under-21 coach Chris Ramsey called his side’s display at Aldershot one his side’s best ever as they came from behind to start the second season of the Barclays Under-21 Premier League with victory.

Chelsea went ahead through Josh McEachran’s penalty on 18 minutes but over the next 20 minutes, Spurs, who finished runners-up in the inaugural competition last season, turned the match on its head through a brace from Yago Falque and third from Harry Kane.

"It was one of the best displays we’ve had, even including last season"

Spurs extended their lead after the break through Shaq Coulthirst before Chelsea grabbed a late consolation through Isaiah Brown, the 16-year-old who joined from West Bromwich Albion in the summer.

“It was an outstanding performance,” Ramsey, the Senior Professional Phase Coach, said. “It was one of the best displays we’ve had, even including last season. I’m delighted for the players, especially the way they applied themselves and the resilience they showed after conceding the early goal.

“There were a lot of pleasing things, the more experienced players were great for us while the likes of Giancarlo, Ruben, Alex McQueen and Grant Ward have all come onto the scene this season and they are trying their best to step up and live up to the standards that were set last season.”
