Fulham 2-1 Liverpool

Fulham returned to the top of the Barclays Under-21 Premier League table after claiming victory over Liverpool in Monday’s top-of-the-table clash at Craven Cottage.

The visitors stated the contest well, with Kristoffer Peterson forcing a save from goalkeeper Max Oberschmidt with only three minutes played, while Joao Carlos Teixeira's angled drive was stopped soon afterwards.

Fulham, watched by first-team manager Felix Magath, started to come back into the match and took the lead on 33 minutes when Ange-Freddy Plumain pounced on Chris David's free-kick to drive home under Liverpool goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux.

The home side made the match safe with seven minutes to go when Lasse Vigen Christensen guided a left-foot shot into the net, although there was still time for Jack Dunn to grab a late consolation for Liverpool from the penalty spot.

"We had a game plan and the players carried it out well," Fulham U21 manager Kit Symons told the club website. "We were a bit nervy playing it out at the back to start with and caused ourselves a few problems but we settled down and did OK in the end."

The result leaves Fulham top of the division, three points clear of Liverpool, although the Reds have two matches in hand. Fulham's final meeting of the regular season comes against West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns on Sunday.

The teams who finish in the top four of this season’s Barclays U21 Premier League will go through to the semi-finals.
