David Luiz commits long-term future to Chelsea

Chelsea's 25-year-old Brazil defender commits future to the Barclays Premier League club

David Luiz has committed his long-term future to Chelsea by signing a five-year contract with the Barclays Premier League club.

The Brazilian international, agreed terms with the European club champions shortly after playing in Saturday afternoon's 1-0 victory against Stoke City.

"I am very happy to sign a new contract with Chelsea," David Luiz told the club's official website. "It is a great club and I look forward to winning more trophies here. I want to play for a long time at the top level - which is what playing for Chelsea means.

"I love everything about the club and especially the fans, who have made me very welcome and given me great support."

The defender has made 35 Barclays Premier League appearances since joining the west Londoners in January 2011 and scored four goals in the English top flight. He also helped Chelsea win the UEFA Champions League last season, scoring in the penalty shoot-out against Bayern Munich.

The 25-year-old has started all but one game of the current campaign and recently captained Brazil in two internationals.

Chelsea's home victory against Stoke took them top of the Barclays Premier League standings on Saturday.
