Barclays U21 Premier League: West Brom held

Yassine El Ghanassy scores his first goal but not enough to beat West Ham at The Hawthorns

  • Yassine El Ghanassy struck his first goal for West Bromwich Albion in the fifth minute

Yassine El Ghanassy scored his first goal for West Bromwich Albion but it was not enough for the home side who were held to a 1-1 draw by West Ham United in their Group 1 match in the Barclays U21 Premier League.

The 22-year-old Belgian winger, brought on loan from Gent during the summer transfer window, put West Brom ahead in the fifth minute at The Hawthorns, but the lead lasted just three minutes as Robert Hall equalised for West Ham.

Another West Brom summer signing, Markus Rosenberg, also made his first start for the club and had a chance to make his mark but struck a shot at Raphael Spiegel in the West Ham goal.

Despite having further chances, the home side were unable to regain the lead and the two sides shared the points.

West Ham lie third with seven points after four games and West Brom remain fifth with five points.
