If the clocks going back and the temperatures plummeting this weekend does not remind you of winter, the ball used in forthcoming Barclays Premier League matches surely will.
From Saturday every Barclays Premier League match will adopt the use of the high visibility Nike Maxim ball.
Designed with multiple colours on the ball's surface that blend together to enhance maximum visual performance and contrast, the Nike Maxim Hi-Vis will enable players to see the ball better and make split-second decisions more quickly.
Boasting innovative Nike Rapid Decision and Response (RaDaR) technology – a lab and field-tested standard of visual performance – the bold geometric graphic and color combination creates a strong flicker effect with crisp edges while in play, even in low-light conditions; a vital innovation in a sport in which precision and timing are essential factors.
The Nike Maxim Hi-Vis, which will be used in Spain's La Liga and Italy's Serie A as well as the Barclays Premier League, also features Geo II Balanced Technology – an aerodynamic textured casing that helps distribute pressure evenly across all of the ball's panels to deliver a consistent, accurate and powerful strike no matter where you hit it.
To celebrate the launch of the new ball the Premier League has launched a Facebook game in which participants can try to win a VIP Barclays Premier League experience and a new Maxim Hi-Vis ball.
'Pass The Ball' could not be simpler. All you have to do is pass the ball to a friend via the Facebook app by clicking on 'Pass Ball' and if you captain the team with the most passes in 90 minutes you'll win a VIP Barclays Premier League experience. You can also help your friends win the new Nike Maxim Hi-Vis.

The Nike Maxim Hi-Vis, which is available from Nike for £90, will be used from October 26 2012 until the end of February 2013, when the white Nike Maxim will be re-introduced until the end of the season.
