Reading's Jimmy Kebe (left) takes on Fulham's John Arne Riise at the Madejski Stadium
Mikel Arteta's late goal earned Arsenal a narrow victory against winless Queens Park Rangers, while Wigan Athletic completed a 2-1 success against West Ham United.
It was hard going for a Gunners side looking to bounce back from two successive defeats but an 84th-minute close-range goal by Arteta salvaged the points for the hosts against a side who had Stephane M'Bia sent off with 10 minutes to go.
The visitors still might have earned a point late on when Esteban Granero broke through to drag a shot wide and Vito Mannone had to thwart Jamie Mackie in added time.
James Tomkins also scored late on for West Ham United but it was not enough to deny Wigan Athletic victory. The Latics sealed a home win thanks to a spectacular Ivan Ramis effort and a James McArthur strike.
There were six goals but no winners at the Madejski Stadium as Reading were held to a 3-3 draw by Fulham, who were denied victory by Robson-Kanu's last-minute levller.
Earlier in the day ten-man Aston Villa were held to a 1-1 draw after Michael Turner cancelled out Christian Benteke's opening goal, while Sunderland and Stoke drew 0-0 at the Britannia Stadium.
