Liverpool justified their position at the top of Group 3 in the Barclays Under-21 Premier League with victory over Manchester City thanks to a brace from England Under-19 forward Adam Morgan.
Morgan gave Liverpool the lead at Hyde FC in the 14th minute, but within 11 minutes City were level through Luca Scapuzzi’s goal after good work from Marcos Lopes.
After the break Morgan, 18, restored Liverpool’s lead, having been played in by Dani Pacheco, who then scored to secure the three points that sent Liverpool to 17 points after seven matches, six ahead of Wolverhampton Wanderers, who have played a game fewer. City remain third on eight points.
