Premier League awards for Ferguson & Bale

Man Utd boss and Tottenham winger win Barclays Manager and Player of the Season

  • Gareth Bale has played a key role in helping Tottenham challenge for a top-four place

  • Ferguson also received the Barclays Merit Award at the club's Carrington training ground

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Gareth Bale have been honoured for their achievements this season by being named as the Barclays Manager and Player of the Season.

Ferguson has just led United to their 13th Barclays Premier League crown and picks up the award for the 11th time.

He was also presented with the Barclays Merit Award at United's Carrington training ground for his outstanding contribution to the Barclays Premier League.

The 71-year-old announced last week that he would be retiring at the end of the season after more than 26 years at Old Trafford. In that time Ferguson has led the club to extraordinary success, winning a total of 38 trophies.

His final and 1,500 match in charge will be against West Bromwich Albion on Sunday with the club aiming to go past the 90-point mark.

Bale, 23, has had a superb campaign, scoring 25 goals in all competitions this season, including 20 goals in 32 appearances in the Barclays Premier League and is regarded as one of the biggest talents in Europe.

He is the first Welshman and Tottenham player to receive the award.

The award is the latest honour to be given to the Welshman over the last few weeks after he won the Football Writers' Association Player of the Year as well as the Professional Footballers' Association Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year.
