Norwich City have become the fourth Barclays Premier League to confirm a summer tour to the United States.
The Norfolk side will take on MLS sides San Jose Earthquakes and Portland Timbers in July, as well as another fixture to be confirmed in a special match in Sacramento.
"It’s a great opportunity for the club to engage with football fans in the United States"
Chris Hughton’s team will go first to California on 15 July ahead of their first fixture in Sacramento three days later. Sacramento have recently launched a new professional club called Sac Pro Soccer, and City are part of a special Sacramento Soccer Day being held to mark the new club’s start to life in the Californian state capital.
Norwich will then play on 20 July against San Jose Earthquakes at their Buck Shaw Stadium before the final match of the tour in Oregon, where they will take on Portland Timbers at the Jeld Wen Field on 24 July.
"We’re delighted to have made arrangements for a summer tour to America where we will play two games against MLS sides and another side to be confirmed,” Hughton said. “The games will provide an important part of our pre-season build-up for the 2013-14 domestic campaign and of course it’s a great opportunity for the club to engage with football fans in the United States.”
Norwich, whose on-loan forward Kei Kamara is a former San Jose Earthquakes player, join Chelsea, Manchester City and Stoke in playing matches in the US, where interest in the Barclays Premier League is growing amid a new broadcast deal carried out with NBC Sports from next season which is expanding the coverage the competition receives in the country.
