The Premier League 4 Sport North West Basketball Competition got a boost last month when Patrick Vieira turned up to watch the five teams battle it out.
The former Arsenal and Manchester City player who is now Football Development Officer at the club, lent his support to the tournament where teams representing City, Manchester United, Bolton Wanderers, Blackburn Rovers and Wigan Athletic took on each other at the Manchester Velodrome.
The event was organised by City in the Community, as part of the PL4S initiative which aims to build on the Olympic legacy and encourage young people to try out various sports. Teams made up of 10 boys and girls competed against each other in a round-robin format.
The event also allowed 10 young “leaders”, who have completed their basketball refereeing qualifications as part of the project, to gain more experience by officiating the matches and keeping track of the scores.
As well as Vieira the participants also had the chance to have their picture taken with the Barclays Premier League trophy.
