Barclays U21 players dominate England squad

Peter Taylor names 17 players from Barclays Under-21s in squad for U20 World Cup in Egypt

  • Harry Kane and Larnell Cole will travel to Turkey with England Under-20s

The England Under-20 squad who will travel to Turkey for the FIFA Under-20 World Cup this month is packed with players who have starred in the inaugural Barclays Under-21 Premier League.

Seventeen of the 21 players named by England head coach Peter Taylor appeared for their club's under-21 teams this season. Among them is Larnell Cole, whose two goals in the Barclays Under-21 Premier League final won the title for Manchester United against Tottenham Hotspur.

Another goalscorer from that match at Old Trafford last week is Alex Pritchard, who is among the forwards, alongside clubmate Harry Kane, while Manchester United defender Tom Thorpe, who also claimed a winners medal, has been named too.

England are drawn in Group E of the 24-team tournament, with Chile, Egypt and Iraq.
