Returning Rooney vows: My time is now

Thirty-second Nike film marks Manchester United man's return to international action

Manchester United's Wayne Rooney is ready to play at Euro 2012

The highly-anticipated return of Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney to the England set-up at Euro 2012 has inspired a short film from Nike.

Rooney is available for England's vital Group D match against Ukraine in Donetsk on Tuesday after serving a two-match suspension.

And the film captures the nation's excitement at the prospect of the prodigiously-talented forward being part of an England team which has a great chance of reaching the knock-out stages.

Rooney's pace, strength and accuracy have made him the scourge of defences in the Barclays Premier League, both at Everton where he broke through in spectacular fashion and at Manchester United where he has proven himself at the highest level.

However, international success has eluded him as, after impressing as an 18-year-old at Euro 2004, he was sent off in the World Cup 2006 quarter final against Portugal.

After England's failure to qualify for Euro 2008, he struggled to shine at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

But now, as he returns from his suspension, Nike are marking the occasion with a 30-second film which shows Rooney ready for the moment and showing a mature, considered and focused side, channelling his past to help him produce the performances England expects.

The film uses clips of old commentary that narrate the ups and downs of his career to build the intensity as Rooney reflects on his achievements and disappointments, all the time preparing to step once again onto the international stage.

His time has come, Blue Eyes is back.

The film forms part of the My Time Is Now campaign that features extensive digital, outdoor and print presence celebrating iconic global players and aspiring young footballers hungry to break into the elite game.
