Manchester United have agreed terms for the signing of Japan international midfielder Shinji Kagawa.

The 23-year-old has agreed personal terms with the Barclays Premier League club and United have also had a bid accepted by Kagawa's club, the German side Borussia Dortmund.

A statement on United's official website said: "The deal is subject only to the player medical and obtaining a UK work permit.

"These conditions are anticipated to be completed by the end of June."

Kagawa will become United's first signing of the summer transfer window if the deal goes through as expected.

He joined Dortmund two years ago for a fee of 350,000 euros from Japanese side Cerezo Osaka, where he started his career.

Kagawa, who has won 30 international caps for Japan, won the German title both seasons he was with Dortmund, scoring 24 goals in 56 matches for the club.

He would become the first Japanese footballer to play for Manchester United.
