Man City host Southampton on opening day

Roberto Mancini's men start title defence at home while new managers aim to make a mark

Manchester City ended the last Barclays Premier League season in dramatic fashion

Manchester City will begin the defence of their Barclays Premier League crown at home to newly-promoted Southampton in one of the stand-out opening-day fixtures of the 2012/13 season.

Meanwhile, city rivals Manchester United learned they will face a tricky trip to Everton for their first match of the campaign as the full Barclays Premier League fixture list was released on Monday.

Southampton's opening-day visit to the Etihad Stadium kicks off a tough run of early fixtures for Saints, who also face Manchester United and Arsenal in their first four matches.

The other two newly-promoted clubs start with home matches; Reading host Stoke City while West Ham United take on Paul Lambert's Aston Villa at the Boleyn Ground.

Liverpool's new manager Brendan Rodgers will start his Reds career with a trip to West Bromwich Albion, who will have boss Steve Clarke in charge for the first time.

Swansea City manager Michael Laudrup will be introduced to English football with a visit to Queens Park Rangers, while Norwich City boss Chris Hughton starts at Fulham.

Tottenham Hotspur will begin life without former boss Harry Redknapp with a trip to Newcastle United, while Roberto di Matteo's first game as permanent Chelsea manager is at Wigan Athletic

Arsenal take on Sunderland at the Emirates Stadium on the opening weekend, which kicks off on Saturday, August 18th.

The 2012/13 season's other eye-catching fixtures include the first Manchester derby at the Etihad Stadium on December 8th, the Red Devils' trip to Liverpool on September 22nd and the north London derby at the Emirates Stadium on November 17th.

Champions Manchester City, who clinched last year's Barclays Premier League title with a thrilling final-day home win against Queens Park Rangers, also end the coming season at home – this time to Norwich City.
