Riether seals Fulham loan move

FC Cologne full-back signs for the Cottagers on a season-long loan

New Fulham full-back Sascha Riether has won two international caps for Germany

Full-back Sascha Riether has signed for Fulham on a season-long loan.

The 29-year-old, who has two caps for Germany, joins the Barclays Premier League club from FC Cologne.

Fulham have the option to sign Riether permanently at the end of the loan spell.

"I feel very pleased to have signed," he told the club's official website. "It feels like I've had a long break from football and for me this is a new experience in a new country.

"Fulham is a good club, a big club with a big tradition and for me it's great to be here.

"I played here one time with Wolfsburg and I remember Craven Cottage being a great stadium with great fans, and I hope I can go on to have a great season here."

Riether, who started his career at Freiburg, joined VfL Wolfsburg in 2007 - making 116 appearances in four years and helping the club win the Bundesliga title in 2009.

He played in all of Wolfsburg's UEFA Champions League group fixtures the following season as well as coming up against Fulham in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Europa League.

Riether joined Cologne last year and has left the club after they were relegated from the Bundesliga.
