Good makes Newcastle switch

Magpies complete the signing of defender Curtis Good on a long-term deal

Curtis Good enjoyed an impressive debut season in the Australian A-League

Newcastle United have signed highly-rated defender Curtis Good from Australian side Melbourne Heart.

The 19-year-old centre-half becomes the third Magpies signing of the summer following the capture of Gael Bigirimana and Romain Amalfitano.

Good has signed a six-year deal after a successful trial at Newcastle and will join up with the squad following their return from Portugal.

"It's a fantastic opportunity for Curtis"
- Melbourne's John Aloisi

He made his debut for Melbourne last season and went on to make a total of 25 appearances for the club.

Melbourne Heart head coach John Aloisi told his club's website last week: "It's a fantastic opportunity for Curtis. Newcastle United is one of the biggest clubs in the United Kingdom, and we are absolutely delighted he has the opportunity to test his wares on such a stage.

"While Curtis will certainly be missed, his proposed transfer is a great affirmation of our youth policy, and a demonstration of the Club's ability to assist in developing players to such an extent that they’re able to move to one of Europe’s leading competitions.

"We wish Curtis well and hope he will one day return to don the red and white stripes of our Club."
