Transfer news: Fryers seals Tottenham switch

Defender moves to White Hart Lane while West Ham United sign Sean Maguire

  • Fryers will provide cover at Tottenham for Benoit Assou-Ekotto

  • Sean Maguire finished as joint-top scorer in the League of Ireland First Division

Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of left-sided defender Ezekiel Fryers from Standard Liege.

The 20-year-old began his career at Manchester United and moved to Belgium in the summer. He made six appearances in all competitions for United last season and had made seven appearances for Liege.

Fryers, who has been capped at Under-16, 17 and 19 level, will link up with Tottenham's Development squad.

West Ham sign Maguire

Republic of Ireland Under-19 international striker Sean Maguire has joined West Ham United on a two-and-a-half-year contract.

The 18-year-old scored 13 goals in 24 league appearances to help Waterford United gain promotion from the League of Ireland First Division this year.

The two clubs agreed a deal for the player last month following a succesful trial and the move is subject to international clearance.

"In summer 2011, the Waterford manager brought me in for a couple of training sessions and gave me a chance in the first team and I took it," Maguire told the club's official website. "Here I am now at West Ham and it is a dream come true, really.

"People tend to say my best trait is my movement so hopefully I can show that here. I haven't been told yet which squad I will be in but I presume I'll be going into the reserves so I'll try to work my way up like I did at Waterford."
