Angelo Henriquez has joined Wigan for the rest of the season
Wigan Athletic have signed Manchester United’s Chile striker Angelo Henriquez on loan until the end of the season.
The 18-year-old forward was signed by United from Universidad de Chile in the summer and has yet to make his senior debut, but appeared for Chile for the first time last month against Serbia.
“We’re really excited about Angelo because he is a very young man with a huge potential,” Wigan manager Roberto Martinez told the Wigan website. “He’s a goalscorer with clever movement inside the box and has had a very successful time with his former club Universidad.”
Henriquez was happy with the move. “This is a fantastic opportunity for me and I am really excited after the manager has given this chance for me to prove myself,” he said. “Now I need to work to try and earn my place in the team.”
He is the club’s second signing of the January window after the transfer of Roger Espinoza was confirmed.
Manchester United have agreed a deal for Joshua King to join Blackburn Rovers in a permanent deal. After appearing in the UEFA Champions League defeat by Galatasaray in November, the 20-year-old Norway striker went on loan to Ewood Park, where he scored twice in eight appearances.
Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini has left the club to join LA Galaxy in the MLS. The 39-year-old Italian joined Spurs four years ago from Chelsea and and made 20 Premier League appearances for them. At Chelsea he played in 146 Premier League matches, winning the title twice.
