After disruption from the weather, the Barclays Under-21 Premier League resumed action over the weekend.
Southampton fought back from two goals to earn a battling draw with Tottenham Hotspur in their Elite Group match in the Barclays Under-21 Premier League on Saturday.
Playing at the club’s new training ground, Spurs took the lead through Shaq Coulthirst’s header on his debut for the Under-21s. Just four minutes later Alex Pritchard put Spurs two-up after a fine run.
Southampton responded and got the goal their pressure merited four minutes before the interval from Ben Reeves, who shot through the crowd after a corner was cleared. The same player equalised for Southampton in the second half when sent through on goal.
The home side came back into the game and threatened to snatch victory but Southampton held on to avoid a third defeat by Spurs this season.
Two goals from Islam Feruz helped Chelsea to their second Group 1 win as they overcame a dogged Middlesbrough 3-2 at Stamford Bridge.
Boro took the lead through Ryan Brobbel but Feruz equalised before half-time. After the break Lewis Baker put the home side ahead from the penalty spot, but Middlesbrough would not back down and equalised within five minutes, Luke Williams with the goal.
Feruz’s long-range shot restored Chelsea’s lead, which they hung on to thanks to a Jamal Blackman save in injury-time.

There will be a London derby at London Colney this lunchtime as Arsenal host West Ham United at 1pm in their second Elite Group match of Phase 2. The Gunners are hoping to avenge the two Barclays Under-21 National Group 1 defeats they suffered at the hands of the Hammers, who beat them into second place in the pre-Christmas qualifying standings.
Liverpool, who are two points ahead of Terry Burton’s third-placed side, have fared even better than West Ham in this inaugural campaign and continued their unbeaten sequence with a 1-0 defeat of Southampton a fortnight ago. The Reds intend to maintain their irrepressible form at home against a Wolverhampton Wanderers side who were beaten 5-1 by Tottenham last time out.
In Group 1 Sunderland get their Group 1 campaign under way at home against a Fulham side defeated 2-0 by Chelsea in their opening match of the second phase. The Black Cats will be hoping for the sort of performance that earned them a 2-1 win against Spurs in their last outing in December.
The evening match between Stoke City and Bolton Wanderers at the Weaver Stadium, of Nantwich Town has been postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.
