Tough FA Cup trips for Chelsea, Man Utd and Arsenal

Four all-Premier League ties feature in the FA Cup Third Round draw as Chelsea go to Southampton

  • Fernando Torres' Chelsea will hope to have found form by the time they face Southampton

  • West Ham's Winston Reid and Man United's Javier Hernandez will meet again

  • Arsenal have the chance to avenge Saturday's League defeat in the FA Cup third round

Chelsea will begin the defence of their FA Cup crown away at Southampton in one of four all-Premier League ties to emerge from the third round which was drawn on Sunday afternoon.

Rafa Benitez, who has overseen two draws and a defeat suring his fledgling tenure at the west London club, will hope to have a Barclays Premier League victory under his belt by the time his side go to St Mary’s Stadium in early January, as Chelsea set out to win the trophy they claimed at Wembley at the expense of Liverpool last May.

Manchester United, who were knocked out in the fourth round by Liverpool last season, also have a tricky trip to a West Ham United side they overcame 1-0 last week, while Arsenal, who will still be reeling from their home defeat by Swansea City on Saturday, have the chance to avenge that 2-0 reverse after being drawn to face Michael Laudrup’s side at the Liberty Stadium.

The other top-flight tie has pitted Queens Park Rangers, who are still in search of their first Barclays Premier League victory of the season, against West Bromwich Albion.

Elsewhere, Manchester City have been drawn at home against Championship side Watford, Tottenham will welcome Coventry City in a repeat of the 1987 Cup final which was won by the Sky Blues, and Newcastle United, Reading and Sunderland have testing journeys to Brighton & Hove Albion, Crawley Town and Bolton Wanderers respectively.
