Ten Barclays Premier League players have been included in UEFA.com users’ Team of the Year poll, for which voting began on Monday.
The poll, now in its 12th year, gives UEFA.com users the chance to pick a team of players from European clubs who have impressed in 2012, and one quarter of the 40 players shortlisted hail from the Premier League.
Chelsea boast the most players from the English top flight with Petr Cech, Ashley Cole, Branislav Ivanovic, Eden Hazard and Juan Mata constituting half of the Premier League's contingent.
Barclays Premier League champions Manchester City are not far behind, however, with Vincent Kompany, David Silva, Yaya Toure and Sergio Aguero recognised for their title-winning achievements of last season. Manchester United’s Robin van Persie, who is the Premier League’s joint-top goalscorer this season with 10 goals, also features.
Voting will run until 11am on Friday 4 January, before the final line-up is announced on Wednesday 16 January.
More than five million voted for last season’s team. Those wishing to do so this year can go to www.en.toty.uefa.com to cast their vote.
