Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool were handed tough draws in the UEFA Europa League.
Andre Villas-Boas’s side, who won the Cup-Winners' Cup in 1963 and the UEFA Cup in 1972 and 1984, were drawn alongside Italian club Lazio, Greece's Panathinaikos and Maribor, of Slovenia, in Group J of the tournament.
Three-time UEFA Cup winners Liverpool will face Udinese, the Serie A side who narrowly missed out in the Champions League play-offs, Swiss team Young Boys and Anzhi Makhachkala, the Russia club who are coached by Guus Hiddink, the former Chelsea manager, and captained by former Inter Milan striker Samuel Eto'o.
Newcastle United, who reached the semi-finals of the competition eight years ago, will not have to travel too far for their Group D matches. Alan Pardew’s side were drawn against Club Brugge, of Belgium, French club Bordeaux and Portuguese club Maritimo.
