Premier League Trophy Tour comes to Manchester

Interactive experience arrives in England to celebrate the beginning of the 2012/13 campaign

Fans are now being invited to sample the Barclays Premier League experience for themselves when the Barclays Premier League Trophy Tour comes to Manchester later this month.

The Trophy Tour is a free interactive family-friendly event that gives fans of all ages the chance to get up close and personal with the world's most popular football league.

Over the last two years the Trophy Tour has visited nine cities across the Middle East and Asia and it is now stopping off in England for the first time to mark the start of the of 2012/13 Barclays Premier League season.

Supporters are taken through four zones where they can learn more about the League, its clubs, its players and its history while they will also have the opportunity to get a picture of themselves lifting the iconic Barclays Premier League Trophy with the help of green screen technology.

The Tour will take up residence in Albert Square, Manchester from August 16th-19th - opening from 11am-7pm each day - and you can be there.

"Tens of thousands of fans across the globe have already enjoyed the Barclays Premier League Trophy Tour, now it's the chance of supporters in England to experience what is at the heart of our competition: the Trophy itself, as this is what every player and manager competes to get their hands on," said Premier League Chief Executive Richard Scudamore.

"The Tour also celebrates the fantastic football played by our clubs, because that is what excites hundreds of millions week-in week-out at home and abroad; and the history and tradition of English football, as this is a fundamental part of what drives the huge interest in the Barclays Premier League."

David Wheldon, Head of Brand, Reputation and Citizenship at Barclays, added: "It is fantastic news that Manchester, a hotbed of English football and club rivalry, is the first port of call for the Tour this season.

"The Barclays Premier League Trophy is a global icon, so this tour is a great opportunity for our customers, clients and our colleagues to get closer to one of the most sought after trophies in football."

The Tour is part of a weekend of events celebrating the start of a new thrilling season of the Barclays Premier League.

As well as the numerous interactive displays, including the opportunity to test your speed against Arsenal winger Theo Walcott, Barclays Premier League legends will also be in attendance, including former Manchester United and Manchester City goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel.

The Great Dane, who won the League title five times in a glittering career in England, will be at the event on Friday, August 17th from 11am.

"My link with Manchester goes back for decades and I love the city," he said.

"Local fans will get to understand more of the history and experience all the aspects of the most exciting league in the world. I’m looking forward to meeting some of the Barclays Premier League’s most passionate fans in Manchester."

There will also be a fan zone around the Trophy Tour which will give fans the exclusive opportunity to play the brand new EA Sports FIFA 13 game, which is not released in England until October.

A Sky Sports News pod will feature a replica of their studio, so supporters can pretend to be Jim White or Kirsty Gallagher.

Manchester City will bring the spirit of City Square to Albert Square as ‘Fan Zone Danny’ gives out City goodies, Manchester United will be offering performances from its official choir, and both the Liverpool and Everton street dance crews will be attending.
