Profile: A clinical finisher with either his feet or head, Rodriguez had loan spells with Stirling Albion and Barnsley, before shining for his hometown club, Burnley, in the Championship. Although regarded as a striker, Rodriguez spent some time on the left wing, where he developed his all-round game and utilised his pace and work rate. Southampton manager Nigel Adkins saw enough ability and potential to make 23-year-old Rodriguez the club's record signing this summer.

He says: "The sky is the limit. You see how good the players are at the club. They want to push on even higher, and carry on the way they're going."

They say: "He's quick, he's strong, a good header of the ball, and he can score a variety of goals as well not just inside the box, but a few outside as well." (Jack Cork, Southampton)

Interesting stat: He was Burnley’s top goal scorer in 2010-11 with 15 goals, at the age of 21.

Did you know? Rodriguez was born in Burnley, but is half-Spanish. His dad, Enrique Rodriguez, once had a trial with Spanish side Deportivo La Coruna.
