Javier Garrido says the Barclays Premier League represents a tough physical challenge

Javier Garrido has expressed his delight at returning to the Barclays Premier League after completing a season-long loan deal from Serie A side Lazio.

The 27-year-old Spanish left-back, who spent two seasons at the Rome-based side after a 49-game spell in the Barclays Premier League with Manchester City between 2007 and 2010, became Chris Hughton's fifth summer signing before the opening weekend fixture away at Fulham on Saturday.

"This is one of the most important and interesting leagues in the world"

"I am really happy," he told the club's official website. "It's a great opportunity for me to come back to the Premier League, one of the most important and interesting leagues in the world, so I'm really happy to be here.

"The Premier League is faster, and physically it's more difficult, but my experience tells me it's a fantastic league, and I am so, so happy to be here."

City have an option to extend the deal beyond the end of the 2012-13 season.
