Stoke City will return to the United States this summer for a 10-day tour as part of their build-up for the 2013-14 season.
One match will be against FC Dallas, the club from whom Stoke City signed Brek Shea in January. City will announce another high-profile match next week. That is scheduled to take place on 27 July, five days after Tony Pulis’s team arrive.
Last summer Stoke crossed the Atlantic Ocean to play Columbus Crew and Sporting Kansas City, as well as Orlando City.
"If there is one market right now where we can develop our own profile, then it has to be America"
“The tour to the United States was extremely successful last year, first and foremost in achieving our primary objective of helping to prepare the squad for the season ahead,” said Stoke chief executive Tony Scholes. “The football management and players were impressed with the high standard of the opposition for all three games, as well as the quality of the training facilities.
“The transfer of Brek Shea subsequently presented an opportunity for us to play a match against his former club which is where we will be heading as part of this tour.
“It’s also a good time to be going back with an exciting feature of the new television agreement being NBC’s coverage which will enhance the Barclays Premier League’s profile in the United States and if there is one market right now where we can develop our own profile, then it has to be America due to the presence of three US internationals in our squad.”
West Ham United have announced that they will travel to the Republic of Ireland and Germany as part of their pre-season schedule.
Sam Allardyce’s team will face Cork City on 7 July, while travelling to Flensburg in the north of Germany to face Hamburg on 23 July.
