Henderson makes tough draw for schools finals

Liverpool midfielder pitches present and former teams against each other in May finals

Jordan Henderson made the draw for this year's edition of the Premier League Schools Tournament Finals and the Liverpool midfielder proceeded to pick his present side against his former team, Sunderland.

As well as Liverpool and Sunderland being paired together in Group D for the final that will take place at Anfield on 9 May, Merseyside rivals Everton are also in the same group, as are Manchester United and Queens Park Rangers.

"It's important to get young kids involved in football and sports so I think this tournament is really beneficial," Henderson told Disney XD's Goalmouth programme.

The full draw is below and applies to the Under-11 mixed teams and the Under-13 girls’ teams.

Qualifying tournaments run by the clubs and their community schemes have had record numbers of children taking part, despite the inclement climate, in the hope of playing in front of the Kop.

As well as playing on the hallowed turf of Anfield, the participating teams will get the Barclays Premier League experience as they walk out the famous players' tunnel at Anfield in the kit of the club they are representing to the theme music that accompanies the players of the Barclays Premier League before each match. All their matches will be officiated by a Premier League official.
