Moyes hails Baines' England quality

Everton boss says he is impressed by left-back's high level of performance

Moyes signed Baines from Wigan in summer 2007

Everton boss David Moyes says Toffees defender Leighton Baines is good enough to be an England regular.

Baines scored from the penalty spot to secure a 2-1 win for Everton against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday four days after winning his sixth cap for England in the 1-0 friendly win against Sweden at Wembley.

Competition is fierce for the international left-back spot with Chelsea's experienced defender Ashley Cole among Baines's rivals - but Moyes said the player's level of performance warranted a place on the international stage.

"Baines plays like an international player now, I see it when he's playing," said Moyes.

"He is probably saying, 'come on, I am looking for players to play with here and help me develop'.

"Bainesy has had a couple of games where he could have done better, but overall his level of performance for probably two years for us has been excellent.

"He is beginning to show that maturity, which, when he first came, I thought, 'come on, grow up quickly.'"
