Injured Bentley out for six months

Tottenham midfielder suffers injury while on loan at Championship side West Ham

Tottenham's David Bentley was on loan at West Ham when he sustained the knee injury

Tottenham midfielder David Bentley has been ruled out of action for up to six months after knee surgery.

The 27-year-old was on loan at Championship side West Ham, where he had made five appearances after joining from Spurs on transfer deadline day.

But Bentley suffered the injury last week and has now gone back to White Hart Lane for treatment.

A Tottenham statement read: "David Bentley has undergone surgery to his left knee. The right-sided midfielder, who joined West Ham on loan in August, is likely to be out for up to six months."

Hammers boss Sam Allardyce added: "It's a great shame for David as he had settled well in the squad. We wish him well and hope he has a speedy recovery."

Bentley joined Tottenham from Blackburn in 2008, but has struggled to hold down a regular place in the side for Harry Redknapp's men.
