Dawson undergoes Achilles surgery

Tottenham defender is now unlikely to play until the new year

Centre-back Michael Dawson has become a key member of Harry Redknapp's squad

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed defender Michael Dawson has undergone surgery on his Achilles injury.

The centre-back, 27, has not featured for Spurs since the 5-1 home Barclays Premier League defeat against Manchester City on 28th August.

Spurs had initially been hopeful the England international would return to action swiftly, but the prognosis suggests Dawson will not play again this year.

A statement on the Club's official website read: "Michael Dawson has undergone surgery to his right Achilles tendon to assist with his recovery."

The statement added: "Medical staff are pleased with his progress and he will be reviewed by the surgeon in early December, at which time a date for a return to full training will be determined."
