Chelsea keen to keep Kalou

Blues boss Villas-Boas says club have offered striker new deal

Salomon Kalou is out of contract at the end of this Barclays Premier League season

Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has confirmed the club have offered a new deal to striker Salomon Kalou.

The 26-year-old has made just two Barclays Premier League starts under Villas-Boas and is out of contract at the end of the season.

However, Portuguese coach Villas-Boas is keen to retain Kalou and he is not worried by the commitment of the Ivory Coast player - or fellow team-mate Nicolas Anelka, who is also out of contract next summer.

"Kalou was offered a contract and hopefully we will continue talks," the Blues boss told the club's official website.

"In January these players are available to discuss their future. We'll continue talks until we reach an agreement or not.

"The fact that they are emotionally tied to this club - like Nico (Anelka) - too, means we can count on them while they are negotiating. Their loyalty to the club will never be in question."
