Everton's Jelavic sets European target

Croatian believes David Moyes' side is good enough to earn qualification next season

Croatian striker Nikica Jelavic has scored nine Barclays Premier League goals for Everton

Everton striker Nikica Jelavic says it is his aim to help the Toffees secure European qualification next season.

David Moyes' side enjoyed an excellent second half to their 2011/12 Barclays Premier League season, losing just twice in their final 18 League matches to claim seventh place.

Sixth place would have secured a Europa League spot and Jelavic, who already has nine Barclays Premier League goals to his name, told Everton's official website that he was ready to help the Toffees reach the next level.

"I think this team is good enough to be playing in Europe"

"I signed a four-year deal and I don’t think about going anywhere else. I want to become even better and I want to score even more goals next season," he said.

"Honestly, I think with this squad, we deserve a better place in the League than we managed this season.

"If we can keep the squad and add a few quality players, I think we can fight for Europe next season.

"Always my objective before a season is to score as many goals as possible and try to play in Europe. I think this team is good enough to be playing in Europe.

"Since I signed we've lost just two games in the Premier League. That's massive."

Jelavic, who won the Barclays Player of the Month for April, thanked the Everton fans for helping him adjust to life in the Barclays Premier League after moving to Goodison Park from Rangers in January.

"It's great. It means a lot to me. In just three-and-a-half months they already like me, so it's special," he said.

"I try to score goals and obviously, fans, they like the goals. I'm so happy they have accepted me and hopefully next season I can continue with the goals.

"I'm confident. And that's my job - to try to score as many goals as I can."
