Rooney fires Man Utd back to top

Striker's 21st Barclays Premier League goal of the season secures victory

Wayne Rooney scored the only goal of the match just before half-time

Manchester United 1-0 Fulham

Wayne Rooney's 21st Barclays Premier League goal of the season was enough to earn a win which put Manchester United three points clear at the top of the table.

Rooney pounced just before half-time to fire the loose ball high into the net after Jonny Evans crossed along the six-yard box.

United enjoyed the majority of the possession and were unlucky not to add to their lead as Fulham keeper Mark Schwarzer produced a fine double save from Ashley Young - then Brede Hangeland blocked Ryan Giggs' follow-up.

Fulham battled hard to stay in the match and gave United some nervy moments towards full-time - but United held on for their sixth successive League victory.
