Sunderland earn FA Cup draw at Everton

Cahill header cancels out Bardsley opener as tie goes back to north-east

Everton celebrate Tin Cahill's equaliser against Sunderland in the FA Cup quarter-final

Everton 1-1 Sunderland

Sunderland held off a strong Everton comeback to earn a draw at Goodison Park in their FA Cup quarter-final tie.

The Black Cats took an early lead on Merseyside when full-back Phil Bardsley rifled in from the edge of the Toffees box, but the hosts replied thanks to a Tim Cahill header midway through the first half.

Royston Drenthe's curling free-kick clipped the top of the bar, before Sunderland keeper Simon Mignolet pulled off a sensational double save to deny Johnny Heitinga and Nikica Jelavic late on as the visitors earned a replay.
