Newcastle's Yohan Cabaye went off injured early in the match
Leon Best's goal helped Newcastle to a victory that took them back into the top six and ensured Mark Hughes suffered defeat in his first match in charge of QPR.
Best sidefooted past QPR keeper Paddy Kenny eight minutes before the interval to earn the three points for the Magpies, who had Yohan Cabaye stretchered off in the first half.
QPR hit the woodwork twice in the first half and kept battling away after falling behind, but struggled to carve out goalscoring chances as they fell to their seventh defeat away from home in this season's Barclays Premier League.
