Fulham's Sidwell set for injury lay-off

Midfielder could be out for six weeks after recurrence of hernia problem

Steve Sidwell completed 90 minutes for Fulham against West Brom on Wednesday

Fulham midfielder Steve Sidwell is set for another spell on the sidelines after picking up an injury during their match against West Brom on Wednesday.

Sidwell, 29, completed 90 minutes during the 1-1 draw in the Barclays Premier League at Craven Cottage, but he suffered a hernia injury in the process.

"Steve had an operation and we fear he will need another one"
- Martin Jol

The former Reading, Chelsea and Aston Villa star has already missed a portion of the season after going under the knife for a hernia operation, and boss Martin Jol fears he may need surgery again.

"We had an injury to Steve and he will be out for a long time - for four, five or six weeks," said Jol. "He had a hernia operation as you know and it is almost the same problem.

"He had an operation and now we have to wait, but we fear he needs another operation."

Sidwell has made 14 Barclays Premier League appearances for the Cottagers so far this season, scoring in the 2-1 victory over Arsenal.

He joined the club from Villa in January 2011 and has since played 41 matches in all competitions.
