Cisse fires Newcastle to victory

January signing scores with sensational drive to secure win for Magpies

It was a hard-fought match at the Sports Direct Arena

Newcastle United 2-1 Aston Villa

Papiss Demba Cisse produced a sensational strike to secure victory for Newcastle over Aston Villa.

Demba Ba marked his return from the Africa Cup of Nations to fire Newcastle into the lead on the half hour mark.

Ryan Taylor was stretchered off after injuring himself in the build-up to Ba's goal - and in the time added at the end of the first period because of the injury, Robbie Keane pounced to level the scores.

But Cisse had the final say, controlling Jonas Gutierrez's cross before unleashing a sweetly-struck volley into the top corner to give the new signing his first Newcastle goal.
