Brave Stoke bow out of Europa League

Valencia make it through to the last 16 after beating Stoke 2-0 on aggregate

Jonas' goal was the difference between Stoke and Valencia in another hard-fought contest

Stoke City exited the UEFA Europa League despite producing a battling performance in their last-32 second-leg defeat in Valencia.

The Potters, who went into the match trailing 1-0 from the first leg, started brightly with Kenwyne Jones having chances to put Stoke ahead.

But Valencia got the crucial goal after 24 minutes when Jonas swept home after a square ball from Pablo Hernandez.

Stoke fought to get a goal back in the second half but were unable to break down Valencia, who will now play Dutch side PSV Eindhoven in the last 16.
