Two Matthew Etherington goals secure three points for Potters

Emmanuel Adebayor gave Spurs hope with a penalty in the second half

Stoke 2-1 Tottenham

Two first-half goals from Matthew Etherington saw Stoke end Tottenham's 11-match unbeaten run in the Barclays Premier League at the Victoria Stadium.

The former Spurs winger put the hosts in front in the 13th minute after good work from Peter Crouch before doubling the lead two minutes before half-time.

Tottenham pulled a goal back when Emmanuel Adebayor scored from the penalty spot in the 62nd minute after Luka Modric had been fouled by Glenn Whelan inside the area.

The visitors saw Younes Kaboul sent off for a second yellow card as they pushed forward in search of an equaliser, but Stoke held on for a victory which takes them to eighth place in the Barclays Premier League.
