Jones secures Man Utd win at Villa

Champions keep up pressure at top of Barclays Premier League

Man Utd's Phil Jones scores his first Barclays Premier League goal to secure victory

Aston Villa 0-1 Man Utd

Champions Manchester United kept up the pressure on leaders Manchester City at the top of the Barclays Premier League by winning at Aston Villa.

In a first half that was overshadowed by injuries to United's Javier Hernandez and Villa keeper Shay Given, the visitors went in front when Phil Jones volleyed in Nani's left-wing cross, the teenager's first goal in senior football.

Villa improved in the second half and James Collins and Emile Heskey both went close, while Wayne Rooney fired over late on for United as Sir Alex Ferguson's side clung on to earn all three points.
