Dann injury blow hits Blackburn

Struggling Rovers set to be without central defender for six weeks

Scott Dann has become a mainstay in the Blackburn Rovers defence this season

Blackburn Rovers have been rocked by the news their central defender Scott Dann will miss the next six weeks of the season with a groin problem.

The 24-year-old picked up the injury while scoring Rovers' equaliser in their Barclays Premier League match at home to West Brom on Saturday, which they eventually lost 2-1.

Dann managed to finish the match, but boss Steve Kean has revealed he has already undergone an operation to fix the problem.

"We have to face it up and crack on, although it is a tough one to take"

"It went much worse after the game and Scott was in a lot of pain and discomfort," said Kean.

"Scott has had an operation on his groin and to learn that he will be missing for such a huge chunk of the season is a devastating blow.

"We have to face it up and crack on, although that is a tough one to take."

Blackburn are already without Dann's fellow defenders Ryan Nelsen, Michel Salgado, Martin Olsson and Gael Givet through injury, and they face fellow strugglers Bolton Wanderers in a huge match at Ewood Park on Tuesday.

"We now have five senior defenders absent and that makes it very difficult to say the least," added Kean.

Dann joined Blackburn for £6m from Birmingham City in the summer after the Blues were relegated from the Barclays Premier League last season.
