Bolton's early breakthrough proved key in an intense derby match
First-half goals from Mark Davies and Nigel Reo-Coker secured a crucial win for Bolton which gave local rivals Blackburn the unwanted present of being bottom of the Barclays Premier League at Christmas.
In an intense atmosphere, Davies fired Bolton in front after just five minutes, then Reo-Coker finished from inside the box with half an hour gone to put the visitors in control.
Blackburn hit back with a smart finish from Yakubu midway through the second period but Bolton held their nerve to claim a vital win and move above Rovers in the Barclays Premier League table.

Wolves twice came from behind to secure a thrilling draw with Norwich in a great match at Molineux.
Andrew Surman headed Norwich in front after Wes Hoolahan's cross but Wolves levelled when Sylvan Ebanks-Blake finished as the ball broke loose from a Stephen Hunt shot.
Norwich thought the points were theirs when Simeon Jackson tapped in to make it 2-1 with 14 minutes to go, but Nenad Milijas crossed for Ronald Zubar to head an equaliser on 82 minutes and salvage a draw for Mick McCarthy's men.
