Triumphant Reading return to Premier League

Royals secure promotion after recording a 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest

Mikele Leigertwood was the hero as Reading booked a return to the Premier League

Reading will be playing Barclays Premier League football next season after they recorded a dramatic late win over Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night.

Mikele Leigertwood's strike with nine minutes remaining was enough for the Royals to claim a 1-0 victory which guarantees promotion from the Championship.

The final whistle sparked jubilant celebrations at the Madejski Stadium as Reading fans revelled in returning to the Premier League for the first time in four years.

Reading, who have won 15 of their last 17 matches, now cannot be caught by third-placed West Ham United as they are eight points clear of the Hammers with only two matches remaining.

It will be the second time Reading have competed in the top-flight.

They won promotion from the Championship in 2006 and impressed in their maiden campaign, finishing in eighth place, although they were relegated the following season on goal difference.

They just missed out on promotion to the Premier League last season when they were beaten by Swansea City in the play-off final.
