The match swung in United's favour on 15 minutes when they were awarded a penalty for Shaun Derry's challenge on Ashley Young - which earned the Rangers' man a red card.

Wayne Rooney despatched the spot-kick, but 10-man Rangers held out until 68 minutes when Paul Scholes lashed home from 20 yards.
