Last-gasp Carroll stuns Blackburn in thriller

Striker heads home in injury time to win astonishing match for Liverpool

Andy Carroll's brilliant late header won a superb match for Liverpool at Blackburn Rovers

Blackburn Rovers 2-3 Liverpool

Andy Carroll's stoppage-time header earned Liverpool a thrilling victory against Blackburn Rovers on a scintillating evening of Barclays Premier League action at Ewood Park.

The hosts fell behind early on when Liverpool launched a counter-attack and Craig Bellamy crossed for Maxi Rodriguez to tap in, and then the Argentine doubled the lead with another smart finish inside the penalty area.

Liverpool were rocked when goalkeeper Alexander Doni was sent off for bringing down David Hoilett, though Yakubu's tame penalty was saved by substitute keeper Brad Jones.

Yakubu made amends by heading in shortly after and he levelled from the spot in the second half after Jones had fouled the Nigerian striker in the box.

But Carroll, who had earlier headed wide from three yards, found his range in injury time, brilliantly powering in a header from Daniel Agger's flick-on to earn the Reds victory and break Blackburn's hearts.
